Forest School Week 1!
The children in Fishermen and Farmers had a fantastic first week in forest school!
We’re off to Forest School!
First, the children were introduced to the fire circle. We learned that we must always walk around the outside of a fire circle, never through the middle. We were all then invited to explore the Forest School space and find our name cookies, which we wore around our necks for the duration of the session. Next, we played a game of ‘1, 2, 3, where are you?’ The aim of the game is to use careful looking and listening skills to find where your partner has hidden in the Forest. After snack we learnt about habitats, and some of the animals that we would expect to find in a woodland habitat. Next, the children chose a woodland soft toy each and were challenged to build a house for it. They had to think about offering the animal shelter, camouflage and a home that was warm and dry. They were told that they must only use materials that were no longer being used by the trees and bushes. They all carefully considered the materials that they had used and were able to talk confidently about the animals, habitat and why they had made the shelter as they had. Finally, we re-joined the fire circle to listen to a story.
We had a wonderful first Forest School session with Fiona and we can’t wait for next week!
